Our Guide to Gentle, Effective & Chemical Free Natural Health Care

It is very important that you protect your dog from worms, fleas and ticks

It is entirely your choice whether you do this using veterinary medicine or a natural alternative.

We are not allowed to advise you or recommend which method you should use, however, we can provide information about all our products and in conjunction with advice from your vet, you can make an informed decision.

Feelwells Intestinal Tincture

Feelwells Intestinal Tincture is a gentle herbal preparation made from 100% natural ingredients, used and trusted for hundreds of years based on a traditional recipe. Tolerated by even the most sensitive animals, Feelwells Intestinal Tincture works with the protective natural gut flora.

Historically, animals were able to roam freely and forage from their habitat, self selecting what was needed to support various aspects of their health, including that of the gut. The combination of herbal and homeopathic ingredients in Feelwells Intestinal Tincture fed on at least one day each month, helps create subtle changes within the gut and acts as a replacement to natural foraging.

A variety of reasons are causing many pet owners to take a more natural approach to animal welfare. If you have any concerns about your pet, always consult a qualified Veterinary surgeon for advice.

Worm Egg Counts

Whether you worm conventionally, naturally, or not at all it’s a good idea to regularly test the worm burden of your dog to make sure they’re getting the protection they need and staying as healthy as possible.

Worm eggs and larvae are invisible to the naked eye. They’re found outside in water bowls, on toys, clinging to blades of grass, on snails and their trails, in dog poo, and dead animals.

Your dog swallows the worm eggs, they hatch in the intestine and the baby worms attach themselves to the lining of your dog’s gut. They then proceed to release millions of eggs which your dog passes out in their poo and the cycle continues. So if your dog tests positive for eggs, they’ve definitely got worms.

Our simple worm egg test will tell you if:

  • Your dog has worms
  • If your current wormer is working
  • If you need to worm your dog or not

Do a worm count test if:

  • You raw feed
  • Your dog is prone to fleas (immature fleas carry tapeworm)
  • You don’t want to worm unnecessarily
  • To make sure the wormer you’re using is working
  • You want to worm less often but remain protected
  • Your dog is a scavenger or a grass eater.
  • You can’t worm your dog for health reasons
  • You want to test for lungworm (a separate test – kit 2)

What each kit tests for:

Kit 1. Wormcount Kit

  • Tapeworm
  • Round Worm
  • Hook Worm
  • Whip Worm
  • Giardia

Kit 2. Lungworm & Heartworm Kit

  • Lungworm
  • Heartworm

How it works:

Inside the kit you will find all you need – pots, gloves, bags etc.

You need to collect a small sample of your dog’s poo (3 consecutive samples for Lungworm)

Then follow the instructions in the pack, complete the leaflet with your details and send it off to the lab using the prepaid envelope.

Pop in a standard letter box – Label is prepaid so no need for stamps

Post as soon after collecting it as possible. Try to take the sample on Sunday to Thursday so the sample isn’t sitting in the post box for a couple of days.

The sample goes directly to the lab for testing. The results are emailed to you within 24/48 hours of receipt.

When to do a test

If you worm your dog

Worm egg counts can be done any time from 14 days after worming. We don’t recommend doing a test before 14 days has elapsed as the worming treatment you have used will need those 14 days to work its magic.

If you don’t worm your dog

Do a test any time, especially if you’re concerned worms may be present, or you live in, or have visited, a lungworm hotspot.

It is recommended you test for worms four times a year.

This test is not intended as a replacement for worming your pet in the first place. It is merely a way of monitoring the worm egg burden of your dog and treating accordingly. Many owners choose to worm their pets while others never do, which is entirely your decision.

Worming puppies and kittens

Always worm puppies (and kittens) by following a veterinary flea and worming schedule as they will have inherited a parasite burden from their mother, and not to do so can pose a serious health risk to very young animals. If you have any questions do not hesitate in getting in touch.

Lungworm

Lungworm is becoming much more common, and is now a risk to dogs across much of the UK. Lungworm can be fatal and is very hard to treat once the symptoms appear. A lungworm screen looks for larvae though you should always be aware of lungworm symptoms; coughing; fast, heavy, noisy breathing; weight loss; unexplained bruising and bleeding; seizure.

Lungworm larvae are invisible to the naked eye. If your dog likes to eat grass, slugs or snails they are at risk of catching lungworm. Dogs who eat a bird or animal who has eaten a snail or slug can also become infected.

How your dog gets lungworm

Your dog swallows the lungworm larvae which then leave the gut and migrate to the lungs via the blood. The larvae hatch into adult lungworms and make their way up through the lungs. If your dog gets to the point where they’re coughing up lungworms they’re in serious trouble. Which is why diagnosis and early treatment are essential.

Do the lungworm test if:

  • Your dog licks or eats grass, slugs or snails
  • Or eats dead animals and birds
  • You don’t worm your pet at all
  • You want to check that your regular worming schedule is providing cover
  • You would like to worm your dog less often but remain protected
  • You raw feed your animals
  • You live in a lungworm hotspot

Benefits of a lungworm test

  • Inexpensively check for lungworm*
  • Especially good if you can’t worm your pet for any reason

*Bear in mind that larvae may only be present intermittently in the faeces and dogs may show clinical signs such as coughing prior to the larvae being present in the faeces. If you’re worried and if you know of Lungworm cases in your area a veterinary blood test is advisable.

Billy No Mates

Looking for an all-natural, chemical-free flea treatment for your animals?

Billy No Mates! is a very effective herbal flea, mite, and tick repellent and is also great for skin and coat condition, using the power of lemon balm and neem. As the product can take up to 6 weeks to really take effect, we would recommend you start using Billy No Mates from around March onwards for a problem-free summer. Good for dogs, cats, and other pets too!

More and more pet owners are looking for natural, chemical-free flea control that works: whether your pet reacts negatively to vet-prescribed medication, or you’re simply interested in taking a more natural, holistic approach to their health, Billy No Mates! has something for everybody.

Launched over 10 years ago, this mix is very effective not only at repelling fleas, but also for improving coat condition and overall health.

How does Billy No Mates work?

Billy No Mates! is a totally natural herbal blend that is added to your pet’s food to help repel fleas, ticks and other biting insects. The essential oils in the herbs create an aroma-barrier (from the animal’s skin/coat oils as the body absorbs the herbs) that is very repellent to ticks, fleas and mites.

When and how do I feed Billy No Mates?

The aromatic combination of mint, seaweed, fenugreek, neem leaves and lemon balm should be simply sprinkled over your dog or cat’s food. We recommend feeding Billy No Mates daily from the start of February/beginning of March as it takes about 4-6 weeks to fully enter the animal’s system. Flea season typically starts around April/May with the warmer weather. Fleas and ticks tend to be less of a problem during the colder months from November, at which point you can give them a break from using Billy No Mates.

Billy No Mates was designed as a preventive, not a cure, so don’t wait until the middle of summer to start feeding it!

How much Billy No Mates do I feed?

Dried/powder: 1 scoop (5ml) per 10kg is a good rule of thumb when feeding Billy No Mates.

Small dog (0-10kg)

½ a scoop

2-3g

Medium dog (10-25kg)

1 scoop

3-4g

Large dog (35+kg)

2 scoops

6-8g

A bag of 325g should last a small dog 5-6 months and a large dog 2-3 months.

Tincture: Give 1ml per 10kg of bodyweight.

Under 10kg

1ml (1 full pipette)

10-20kg

2ml

20-30kg

3ml

30+kg

4ml

Which is better, tincture or dried?

Both are just as effective when the dosage information is followed correctly. For wet food, we tend to recommend the dried, and for kibble, we recommend the tincture. Some pets like one version over the other. Most pets don’t mind, however, and we make sure to stock both so that both kibble and raw feeders have options.

Does Billy No Mates work? Is Billy No Mates effective?

If fed in due time and at the correct dosage, our customers find Billy No Mates very effective and we have successfully used it on our own dogs for several years.

Can I use it for my cat? Is it safe for cats?

Yes, Billy No Mates is safe to use in cats. Please follow the guidelines by weight for the right dosage.

Can I feed Billy No Mates year-round?

Yes!

Can I use Billy No Mates for my puppy?

Billy No Mates is safe to use in puppies over 12 weeks of age.

Can I use Billy No Mates for my pregnant bitch?

While there are no reports of any toxicity or issues in pregnant bitches, we would recommend not using herbs during this period.

Can I use Billy No Mates for my epileptic dog?

Yes, note that Fenugreek, one of the ingredients in Billy No Mates, can reduce seizure activity, so always check with your veterinary surgeon before adjusting medication dosage.

Can I use Billy No Mates for my diabetic dog?

Yes, with caution, as Fenugreek can cause lowering of blood sugar. Your dog’s insulin dosage may need to be adjusted/reduced. Always consult a veterinary surgeon before adjusting medication dosage.

What if I give too much?

If you accidentally give a double dosage in a day, this won’t cause any major issues.  Generally we would not recommend exceeding the advertised dosage as this does not make Billy No Mates more potent, and unused herbs/tincture are simply expelled from the body, therefore wasting it. You might also have to get more Billy No Mates before you expected to!

Obviously, if your pet consumes a whole bottle or bag, then please seek veterinary attention.

Postbiotic Gut Health Supplement

Feelwells Postbiotic Natural Gut Health Supplement is the most effective way to support & maintain your dog’s gut and immune health

Does your dog have:

  • Grumbly tummy?
  • Soft or runny poo?
  • Bad Breath?
  • Smelly wind?
  • Food intolerances or allergies?

If so, try our Postbiotic Gut Health Supplement …

We use Postbiotics as they have all the benefits of probiotics but they are in a stable format so they are not affected by manufacture, storage or transit to the gut.

  • 96% Duck – highly palatable & easy to feed – no pills or powders
  • Cold Pressed – easily digested
  • Can be fed as a treat or sprinkled onto food
  • Grain & Gluten Free

  • Suitable for all dogs and especially those with a senstive digestion and skin issues
  • Gentle and effective

Why are Postbiotics more effective than Probiotics?

Probiotics are live, good bacteria. The problem with good bacteria is that they dont all survive the manufacturing process, storage, transit etc and so what arrives in yoru dog’s gut is not the same amount that we put in.

Postbiotics are not live but they are bio-active so they have all the properties of probiotics but in a totally stable format and therefore what we put in when we make it, is the amount that arrives in your dog’s gut

We have been running a trial and below are some of the comments that we have received so far:

We love these! They have helped the gargly tummy & the flatulence and his poo is now a much better consistency

Since starting on the supplement, we have only had one instance of a noisy belly, and no days of not eating!

Tilly has always been a sick little dog, normally throws up stomach acid once or twice a week. But hasn’t had a single episode since being on the supplement!

He prefers it to the Four Leaf Rover Protect. It’s easier to give. He really likes them and he’s much happier on them.

He likes the taste, it is easy to feed and seems to be helping his tummy.

Brody absolutely loves these . We’ve noticed quite a big improvement in the itching, it hasn’t stopped but there is a remarkable change.. Also noticed he has a little more energy than before too.

It is a well tolerated product for both my dogs, I have used other ‘gut boosting’ products and these have upset my dogs stomach, so I will be continuing with the product over a longer period to see how they get on. Thank you

Dog likes them very much. I get shouted at when I go into the room with them in

This continues to impress me! I had no idea that postbiotics were even ‘dog-friendly’ so to discover that they are AND that they are so effective on canine gut health is a revelation

Only been using it since Monday as I didn’t receive it until then. Definitely an improvement in the poo, much firmer.

I have found that if Jeff is reluctant to eat, I can give him a couple of pellets, and he seems to realise he is in fact hungry, and eats his meal. This has helped reduce his noisy belly episodes and stops him progressing to vomiting
